The Crimean Bridge, with which Russia intends to connect the Crimean Peninsula with the mainland, has already cracked before it opened. Of the 595 bridge supports, the 256th support, located almost in the middle of the Kerch Strait, cracked in two places. It is noted that workers reassembled the frame around the support to prevent further destruction and restore it. The cracked support is 8 kilometers away from the shore. In particular, “due to the temperature gradient,” said Yuri Medovar, senior researcher at the Institute of Water Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences, mining hydrogeologist, member of the Yabloko Republican Democratic Party. Commenting on information about the alleged appearance of cracks in one of the supports of the Crimean Bridge, he suggested that destruction is possible due to a number of reasons. For example, due to the large temperature difference between the underwater and above-water parts of the supports. According to the scientist, in order to prevent internal deformation of the support, the developers should have provided for its heating. Medovar also reported that the central arch of the bridge “lies on two supports and weighs 10 thousand tons,” respectively, there is a colossal load on each of the supports – 5 thousand tons.
