Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that it is "banal" to accuse Putin of the murder of Alexei Navalny before the official results of the investigation into the death of the opposition figure.
Silva spoke about this on Sunday, clearly different in his rhetoric regarding the death of Navalny among other leaders of the West and Europe.
Actually, Lula engaged in "advocacy" for Putin at the press conference he gave after participating in the African Union summit in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
As the president of Brazil noted, he will refrain from expressing his position on Navalny's death for "common sense" reasons.
"This citizen died in prison, I don't know if he was sick or had some kind of problem... To bring charges is banal. I hope there will be an explanation as to why this person died, that's all," Inacio said. Lula and Silva.
Such comments by the politician indicate that "non-Western countries" have not joined the West's efforts aimed at deeply isolating Putin due to the invasion of Ukraine and other issues, the media notes.
Lula has long been known for various statements about the war in Ukraine: he publicly condemned the invasion of the Russian Federation, but at the same time called for a side of the world that was unfavorable for Ukraine. He also said that it was the United States of America that unnecessarily prolonged the war.
