How to make a regular monitor touchscreen

How to make a regular monitor touchscreenDo you want to turn your regular laptop into a touchscreen one? That is, without cunning manipulations, your laptop monitor can turn into a touch screen...
American engineers have proposed a simple way to turn a regular laptop screen into a touch screen. A group of engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has proposed a simple and, most importantly, very cheap way to turn the screen of a regular laptop into a touch screen, thereby expanding the functionality of the device.
Actually, there are no miracles of any kind, and the engineers’ invention is an ordinary attachment for the webcam of your laptop, which consists of an ordinary door hinge and a mirror glued to it. This mirror is installed at such an angle that the camera captures an image of the laptop screen and a small area in front of it. To ensure proper operation of the device, they used a program created by one of the project participants back in 2010, which detects touches on the screen by the reflection of a finger from its surface. Essentially, the system works so that when you raise your finger to the laptop screen, the camera begins to see not only the finger itself, but also its reflection from the screen. When the finger and its reflection are connected, the system registers the touch. At the same time, for correct operation, the system must first be calibrated: following the instructions of the program, the user must touch the screen in certain places. So that the program can be used with any application, engineers taught it to turn touches into mouse actions. As the creators of the system note, so far it is only a concept demonstrating the general performance of the proposed idea. The timing of the release of the commercial version of the mirror module for the webcam has not been announced.
